The Grand Valley State men's basketball team secured a 72-63 victory against Parkside on Thursday night in Kenosha, Wisconsin. This win improves the Lakers' record to 7-6 in the GLIAC and 10-13 overall.
Mason Docks led the Lakers with a career-high 26 points, shooting 9-16 from the field and 4-8 from beyond the arc. Jalen Charity was the top rebounder for GVSU with seven boards.
The Lakers shot 45% from the field and 35% from three-point range. They outrebounded Parkside 33-29 and limited their opponents to just four offensive rebounds. The team recorded 16 assists on their 25 made field goals.
GVSU started strong, quickly gaining a double-digit lead midway through the first half, largely due to Docks' early contribution of 12 points. The Lakers extended their lead to 19 points late in the first half before entering halftime with a 16-point advantage.
In the second half, Parkside narrowed GVSU's lead to single digits with over twelve minutes left on the clock. The gap was further reduced to three points halfway through the period. However, GVSU responded with a quick six-point run thanks to baskets by Smith, Docks, and William Dunn.
Parkside managed a nine-point run of their own to tie the game at 55 with five and a half minutes remaining. They took their first lead shortly after, but Docks hit a crucial three-pointer to regain control for GVSU at 61-58 with just over two minutes left. Grazulis added three more points to extend the lead, and free throws helped secure the victory for the Lakers.
The Lakers will conclude their road trip against Purdue Northwest on Saturday in Hammond, Indiana. The game is scheduled for tipoff at 4:00 PM ET (3:00 PM CT). Fans can follow @gvsubasketball for live updates or visit gvsulakers.com for live stats, video, and audio links.
