Grand Valley State University has announced the signing of 31 new student-athletes for its football team, set to join in the fall of 2024. The announcement was made by Scott Wooster, the head football coach, who is entering his second year with the Lakers.
"We had an outstanding year identifying our needs and getting what we wanted on both sides of the ball," said Wooster. He emphasized the importance of finding recruits who fit well within the program's culture and academic expectations. "A number of our recruits also had Division I interest and while we kept the majority, we also lost a few."
The incoming class includes players primarily from Michigan (25), along with four from Ohio and two from Illinois. The breakdown consists of 18 defensive players, 12 offensive players, and one kicker.
Among those signed are Chandler Allen from Detroit, Michigan; Isaiah Allen from Cleveland, Ohio; Isaiha Amaechi from Chicago, Illinois; Jayden Barnes from Toledo, Ohio; Jay Cady from Lake Orion, Michigan; Gage Chatfield from Jenison, Michigan; Evan Curtiss from Fowler, Michigan; Anderson Farmer from Traverse City, Michigan; Marion Figueroa from New Baltimore, Michigan; Corin Greenwell also hailing from Chicago.
The recruitment process focused on securing athletes who not only demonstrate skill on the field but also excel academically. Wooster highlighted that their academic success rating is among the leaders in both GLIAC and NCAA.
Other notable recruits include Ronald Jackson from Detroit; Mason Kirn from Rockford; Davonta Love and Andrew Schuster both associated with Chippewa Valley High School in Macomb County. Additionally included are Devon Pettus and Anthony Scott among others.
This diverse group aims to strengthen Grand Valley State's competitive edge as they prepare for upcoming seasons under Coach Wooster’s guidance.
