The Grand Valley State men's basketball team is set to face Northern Michigan in the GLIAC Tournament semifinal round on Saturday, March 9, at 1:00 PM in Marquette, Michigan. The victor will proceed to the GLIAC Championship scheduled for Sunday, March 10, at 2:00 PM.
In their recent quarterfinal match, the Lakers triumphed over Michigan Tech with a close score of 79-76. Mason Docks was instrumental in this victory, leading the team with 21 points from 7-12 shooting and an impressive performance at the free throw line. Marius Grazulis contributed significantly as well, achieving his sixth double-double of the season by scoring 16 points and securing 10 rebounds.
The last encounter between GVSU and Northern Michigan resulted in a thrilling double-overtime win for GVSU. Britain Harris achieved a career-high with 24 points during that game. Grazulis added another strong performance with 22 points and ten rebounds. William Dunn and Trevor Smith each scored 15 points and made two three-pointers.
Currently on a five-game winning streak, GVSU has won six out of their last seven games. This streak marks their longest of the season as they have consistently scored over 90 points in their recent regular-season games. They hold a record of 15-14 for the season and finished fourth in the GLIAC standings.
Northern Michigan enters this semifinal after clinching the GLIAC regular-season championship with a conference record of 14-4 and an overall record of 22-9. In their quarterfinals matchup, they defeated Purdue Northwest with a score of 71-63.
Max Weisbrod has been named GLIAC Player of the Year for Northern Michigan due to his leading role in scoring for his team, averaging 16.8 points per game on a shooting percentage of 43%. He also averages over three rebounds per game and leads his team with assists totaling up to "123c". Dylan Kuehl contributes significantly as well with an average of 16.5 points and 5.7 rebounds per game while maintaining a field goal percentage of "50%". Kuehl also leads his team defensively with "30" blocked shots.
