Lakers excel in CCA Super Region honors with seven players selected

A total of seven players from the Grand Valley State Lakers have been named to the Super Region 3 Conference Commissioners Association (CCA) football team, with five securing spots on the first team. This announcement was made today, highlighting a strong representation from the Lakers.

Senior linebacker Abe Swanson and senior defensive end Christian McCarroll are repeat selections for the first team. They are joined by senior offensive linemen Garrett Carroll and Jordan Davis, as well as return specialist Darrell Johnson. Additionally, sophomore linebacker Anthony Cardamone and sophomore defensive end Niles King were named to the CCA second team.

Christian McCarroll leads all GLIAC defensive linemen with 55 tackles and is also at the forefront in tackles for loss with 15.0 and ranks second in quarterback sacks with 8.0. His performance has been crucial for a defense that leads nationally in QB sacks with 51.

Abe Swanson, recognized as a consensus First-Team All-American in 2022, has recorded a team-high of 78 tackles this season. He has also contributed significantly with 8.5 tackles for loss, 5.0 QB sacks, three interceptions, one fumble recovery, two forced fumbles, and five quarterback hurries.

Garrett Carroll and Jordan Davis have been pivotal on the left side of an offensive line that is among national leaders in several categories including scoring and rushing yards per game. Carroll boasts a blocking/protection efficiency rating of 94.7 percent while Davis holds a rating of 94.5 percent.

Darrell Johnson leads Grand Valley State University in all-purpose yards totaling 890, which includes leading the GLIAC with combined kick return yards of 541 and one touchdown.

Anthony Cardamone ranks second on his team in tackles with 65 alongside impressive stats like 13.0 tackles for loss and six quarterback sacks. Meanwhile, Niles King has accumulated ten quarterback sacks ranking him among national leaders along with his tally of 13.5 tackles for loss.
