The Grand Valley State men's basketball team is set to begin its postseason journey as they face Michigan Tech in the GLIAC Tournament quarterfinals. The game will take place on March 6 at 8:00 PM at the GVSU Fieldhouse Arena.
The Lakers concluded their regular season with an 11-7 record, securing fourth place in the GLIAC standings. They ended the season on a high note with a four-game winning streak, including victories over the top three teams in the conference. Their final regular-season game was a double-overtime win against Northern Michigan, finishing 106-99. Following that, they defeated Michigan Tech 92-86.
Marius Grazulis earned recognition as the GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week after achieving his fifth double-double of the season against Northern Michigan, scoring 22 points and collecting 10 rebounds. He also matched his career-high by scoring 24 points in their victory over Michigan Tech. Britain Harris also shone brightly, scoring a career-high of 24 points in both games against NMU and MTU and has consistently scored at least 20 points in three of his last four games.
This marks GVSU's 26th appearance in the GLIAC Tournament. Historically, they have achieved a record of 28-18 and claimed seven championships, with their most recent title won as a seventh seed in 2019.
Michigan Tech enters this matchup as the fifth seed with an overall record of 11-16 and an 8-10 mark within the conference. The Lakers managed to sweep their season series against them this year. Marcus Tomashek leads Michigan Tech's offense, topping GLIAC scoring charts with an average of 22.5 points per game. Dan Gherezgher contributed significantly by averaging 14.5 points per game and scoring 25 points during their last encounter with GVSU.
