The Grand Valley State men's basketball team secured a significant 87-77 victory against Ferris State on Thursday evening. This win improved the Lakers' record to 8-7 in the GLIAC and 11-14 overall.
Britain Harris was instrumental for the Lakers, scoring a career-high 23 points, including three successful shots from beyond the arc. Harris also contributed four rebounds and three assists. William Dunn added 17 points with three 3-pointers and four rebounds. Marius Grazulis contributed 12 points and six rebounds, while Trevor Smith provided 11 points and led the team with five assists.
The game began with a strong start for the Lakers, who initiated a 7-0 run with contributions from Marius Grazulis and Ethan Alderink. The team extended their lead to double digits at 19-9 after a three-pointer by Mason Docks. Grazulis further increased their advantage to its peak in the first half at 28-16.
Trevor Smith helped elevate the lead to 17 points before Ferris State narrowed it down to seven. However, the Lakers finished the first half strong, ending with a 6-0 run that gave them a comfortable lead going into halftime.
Ferris State began the second half aggressively, reducing their deficit to nine within three minutes. After several scoreless minutes, Harris restored GVSU's double-digit lead with an assisted layup from Grazulis.
Despite Ferris State's efforts, which included a crucial 9-0 run that cut their deficit to just three points, GVSU responded effectively. A subsequent Laker surge increased their advantage back to ten points midway through the second half.
In the final moments of play, Ferris State made another push but was thwarted when Dunn hit an "and one" three-pointer that effectively sealed GVSU’s victory.
Looking ahead, Grand Valley State will host Lake Superior State on Saturday for their last home game of the regular season on senior day.
