The Grand Valley State women's soccer team secured a place in the GLIAC Tournament semifinals by defeating Davenport 1-0 on Monday evening. The Lakers, now holding an 11-2-6 record, will face Parkside in the semifinals on Friday in Marquette, Michigan.
In their match against Davenport, GVSU outshot their opponents 12-8 and had a significant advantage with shots on goal at 7-2. The Lakers also earned six corner kicks compared to Davenport's two. The decisive moment came in the 65th minute when Kacy Lauer drew a penalty inside the box. Taylor Reid successfully converted the penalty kick, placing it in the bottom right corner of the goal. This marked Reid's fourth goal of the season and her third over the last two games.
Alli French and Ella Kleiver led GVSU with three shots each, all on target. Reid contributed two shots and scored her second game-winning goal of the season. Five field players from GVSU played for the entire duration of the match. Goalkeeper Isabel Imes achieved her fifth shutout of the season, making two saves.
