Grand Valley State University's women's soccer team secured their 16th Midwest Regional Championship with a narrow 1-0 victory over Ashland University on Friday night. The match, held at Ferguson Field in Ashland, Ohio, saw the Lakers progress to the elite eight, where they will face Washburn for a spot in the final four.

The first half was evenly contested, with Ashland leading slightly in shots and corner kicks. However, both teams went into halftime without scoring.

In the second half, Grand Valley State created several scoring opportunities. Abby Winn's attempt narrowly missed the target, while Claire Breault's shot was saved by Ashland's goalkeeper.

The decisive moment came in the 86th minute when Taylor Reid maneuvered past two defenders and scored with her left foot. This marked Reid's fifth goal of the season and her third game-winning goal.

Reid contributed significantly to the team's offense alongside Kacy Lauer, who had three shots on goal. Alli French and Claire Breault also made notable efforts. Isabel Imes started as goalkeeper for Grand Valley State and achieved her sixth shutout of the season with five saves.

The Lakers are set to compete against Washburn on Sunday at Ferguson Field. The winner will advance to next week's final four in North Carolina.
