Six GVSU Lakers earn spots on All-GLIAC teams

The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Conference (GLIAC) has announced its women's soccer All-GLIAC teams, with six players from the Grand Valley State University (GVSU) Lakers receiving honors. Among them, three players were named to the first team, two to the second team, and one received an honorable mention.

Senior forward Taylor Reid and senior midfielder Mackenzie Jones have both been awarded first team honors for the second consecutive year. Joining them on the first team is junior defender Daan Louwerse, who earned this recognition in her debut year at GVSU. Sophomore defender Kacy Lauer and junior midfielder Emma Chudik were named to the second team, while junior defender Stephanie Sturgeon received an honorable mention.

Taylor Reid is currently tied for the team lead with three assists and 11 points. She has scored four goals this season, including two crucial goals in a recent game against Davenport that earned her GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week honors. Mackenzie Jones has contributed significantly both offensively and defensively throughout the season, scoring two goals and playing a key role in maintaining seven clean sheets for her team.

Daan Louwerse has been a pivotal addition to GVSU's defense since transferring this year. She leads the team in minutes played and provided a decisive assist at Michigan Tech. Kacy Lauer shares the lead with Reid in assists and points while being perfect on penalty kicks this season.

Emma Chudik tops the team's goal-scoring chart with five goals, including a hat trick at Purdue Northwest which led to her being named GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week. Meanwhile, Stephanie Sturgeon has consistently performed defensively across all games this season.

The Lakers are set to continue their campaign in the GLIAC Tournament semifinals against Parkside tomorrow at Northern Michigan University’s campus in Marquette, Michigan.
