GVSU women's lacrosse defeats Concordia-St. Paul in dominant fashion

The Grand Valley State University (GVSU) women's lacrosse team secured a decisive 16-1 victory over Concordia-St. Paul (CSP), maintaining their unbeaten record in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play. This win brings GVSU's season record to 10-1 and 2-0 in league matches.

Sydney Stone initiated the scoring for the Lakers within the first minute of the game. Maddy Champagne followed with two consecutive goals, assisted by Delaney Smith on the second one. Hailey Crittenden then added two more goals, with an assist from Champagne. Zoe Ziegler contributed her first goal, and Crittenden completed a hat trick by the end of the first quarter, bringing the score to 7-0.

In the second quarter, Crittenden and Stone each scored again, with Smith assisting Stone's goal, extending GVSU's lead to nine points at halftime.

Crittenden scored her fourth goal early in the second half before CSP managed their sole goal of the match. Kate DeYoung responded for GVSU with her first goal of the season, maintaining a ten-point lead into the final period.

Champagne opened the fourth quarter with her third goal, followed by woman-up goals from Smith and Jill Dennison, marking Dennison's first of the year. Stone and Ella Boose rounded out GVSU's scoring efforts as they achieved their 31st consecutive GLIAC regular-season win.

Hailey Crittenden led offensively with five goals, while Maddy Champagne and Sydney Stone each recorded hat tricks. Additional contributions came from Ella Boose, Zoe Ziegler, Kate DeYoung, Delaney Smith, and Jill Dennison with one goal apiece. Smith provided two assists; Champagne had one assist. In draw controls, Stone secured five, Champagne four, and Leah Leonard three.

Defensively, GVSU limited CSP to just three shots while forcing 16 of CSP's 30 turnovers. Champagne caused three turnovers; Stone, Ashleigh Rothe, Elora Ferrie, and Tatumn Nyen each caused two turnovers. Rothe also collected four groundballs alongside Champagne, Smith, Aislynn Alkire, and Hope Leinen who each gathered three.

Looking ahead, GVSU will host Walsh next Friday for their final non-conference game of this season.
