The Grand Valley State University (GVSU) women's lacrosse team, recently crowned champions of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC), is set to conclude their regular season with a game against Davenport on Monday afternoon. This marks the second encounter between the two teams in just four days, following GVSU's 13-3 victory at home last Friday.
During Friday's match, GVSU held a modest 4-0 lead at halftime before scoring nine additional goals in the second half. This performance secured their eleventh GLIAC regular season championship. Hailey Crittenden, Maddy Champagne, and Sydney Stone each scored three goals for the Lakers. The team's defense was formidable, causing 20 turnovers and collecting 31 groundballs, while goalkeeper Kaylyn Cater made three saves. GVSU boasts the nation's best scoring defense, allowing an average of only 5.67 goals per game.
Davenport's goalkeeper Maisy Latus delivered a strong performance with 13 saves and two groundballs. However, despite efforts from Maddy Haynes, Theadora Krueger, and Alyssa Bird who each scored for Davenport University (DU), their offense struggled against GVSU's defense. A win for DU would secure them as the third seed in the upcoming GLIAC Tournament; a loss would lead to tiebreaker scenarios with Concordia-St. Paul to determine third and fourth seeds.
