GVSU dominates All-GLIAC women's lacrosse awards with multiple honors

The GLIAC has announced its All-Conference awards for women's lacrosse, with Grand Valley State University (GVSU) standing out by having the most players recognized. The Lakers secured 11 spots on the all-conference teams, with seven players on the First-Team, two on the Second-Team, and two receiving honorable mentions. Additionally, GVSU claimed five major individual awards.

Maddy Champagne was honored as Attacker of the Year. Sydney Stone received Midfielder of the Year recognition. Aislynn Alkire was named Defender of the Year. Kaylyn Cater earned Goalkeeper of the Year honors. Head coach Mackenzie Lawler was awarded Coach of the Year.

For a second consecutive season, Maddy Champagne has been named GLIAC Attacker of the Year. Champagne leads her team with 56 points from 43 goals and 13 assists, including nine hat tricks this year. She has contributed significantly to her team's performance with 50 draw controls, 40 groundballs, and causing 17 turnovers. Her achievements include becoming GVSU's all-time leading scorer with a career total of 226 goals.

Sydney Stone achieved a career-high 46 points to earn GLIAC Midfielder of the Year honors. Stone tied for the team lead with 43 goals and recorded ten hat tricks this season. She also led her team in draw controls and caused turnovers while playing a crucial role in both offense and defense.

Senior defender Aislynn Alkire completed her Laker career by being named GLIAC Defender of the Year. She played a key role in what is considered one of the nation's best defenses, helping keep opponents' scores low throughout the season.

Junior goalkeeper Kaylyn Cater was recognized as GLIAC Goalkeeper of the Year after an impressive season in net. She ranks third nationally in save percentage and leads in allowing only 4.51 goals per game.

Under head coach Mackenzie Lawler's leadership, GVSU achieved a perfect conference record and claimed another regular-season title. The team finished with a 15-1 overall record and maintained a presence in national rankings throughout the season.

Other first-team honorees included attacker Hailey Crittenden, midfielder Ashleigh Rothe, and defender Hope Leinen who all had standout performances during their seasons.

Freshman attacker Delaney Smith and sophomore defender Kylie Waeghe were selected for the second team due to their significant contributions to their team's success.

Honorable mentions went to midfielder Zoe Ziegler and defender Elora Ferrie for their noteworthy efforts throughout their respective seasons.
