Grand Valley State wins against Ferris State with strong performance

The Grand Valley State women's soccer team, ranked 20th, secured a 2-1 victory over Ferris State on Sunday. The Lakers' season record now stands at 8-2-5, with a conference record of 6-2-4 in the GLIAC. Meanwhile, Ferris State's record is 5-6-4 overall and 3-5-3 in the GLIAC.

In the fifth minute of the match, Ryann Fetty scored her first goal of the season following an assist from Ella Kleiver. This gave the Lakers an early lead. "Ella Kleiver made a great pass to Ryann Fetty who took a shot from just outside the box that just went over the stretching arms of the goalkeeper," reported on Fetty's goal.

The Lakers extended their lead to 2-0 in the 26th minute when Avery Lockwood scored her second goal of the season with assistance from Kacy Lauer.

Ferris State had a chance to score in the second half with a free kick opportunity but was denied by Kendall Robertson's save. However, they managed to score in the 68th minute off a corner kick.

Throughout the game, both teams took two shots each after Ferris State's goal. The Lakers maintained their lead with superior shooting statistics, outshooting Ferris State 14 to 8 and having more shots on goal at seven compared to four for Ferris State.

Avery Lockwood achieved her second game-winning goal this season and contributed two shots during this match. Ella Kleiver led her team with two shots on target and provided an assist. Ryann Fetty also contributed significantly with her first goal of the season and two shots.

The Lakers will host Parkside on Friday for senior night before facing Purdue Northwest on Sunday.
