Grand Valley State defeats Davenport; set for GLIAC tournament rematch

The Grand Valley State women's soccer team concluded their regular season with a victory over Davenport, winning 2-1 on Thursday night. This result places the Lakers second in the GLIAC standings with a record of 10-2-6 overall and 8-1-5 in conference play.

The match saw an early lead for the Lakers, as Taylor Reid scored just 45 seconds into the game. Her goal came from a header following a well-executed pass by Sophia Morgan. Reid then scored again in the 13th minute, bringing her total to three goals this season. Abby Winn contributed to this goal by taking a shot that was saved, allowing Reid to capitalize on the rebound.

Throughout the game, Grand Valley State maintained control of possession and had a significant advantage in shots, outshooting Davenport 20-5 overall and 8-2 on target. Despite Davenport's late goal with only 45 seconds left in regulation time, the Lakers secured their win.

Taylor Reid was instrumental for Grand Valley State, leading her team with two goals and five shots in total during her 63 minutes on the field. Both Sophia Morgan and Abby Winn provided assists and attempted two shots each. Alli French also contributed with three shots during her time on the pitch. Daan Louwerse played the entire match for the Lakers, while goalkeeper Isabel Imes made one save during her start.

The upcoming schedule sees Grand Valley State facing Davenport once more in the GLIAC Tournament Quarterfinals next Monday at GVSU Soccer Field, with kickoff at 5:00 PM.
