GVSU lacrosse team triumphs on Senior Day against Northern Michigan

The GVSU Lacrosse team celebrated Senior Day with a decisive victory over Northern Michigan, winning 13-2 at the GVSU Lacrosse Field in Allendale, Michigan. The Lakers honored six seniors before the game: Hailey Crittenden, Aislynn Alkire, Hope Leinen, Maddy Champagne, Sydney Stone, and Elora Ferrie. This group is recognized as the winningest class in the program's history.

The match began with an unassisted goal by Ashleigh Rothe for GVSU. Northern Michigan briefly tied the score before Hailey Crittenden restored the lead with an assist from Maddy Champagne. The first quarter ended with GVSU leading 2-1.

In the second quarter, Champagne assisted Zoe Ziegler for another goal. Sydney Stone scored next with help from Rothe. Both Champagne and Stone added goals to finish the half at 6-1 in favor of GVSU.

Northern Michigan scored early in the second half but was quickly countered by a scoring run from GVSU. Crittenden initiated this run, followed by two more goals from Stone, bringing the score to 9-2 after three quarters.

Ziegler added her second goal in the fourth quarter, and Champagne contributed two more goals. Rothe concluded the scoring with an assist from Crittenden.

Sydney Stone led with four goals; Maddy Champagne had a hat trick. Crittenden, Ziegler, and Rothe each scored twice. In addition to her scoring efforts, Champagne provided two assists and secured five draw controls.

Goalkeeper Kaylyn Cater made seven saves and collected one groundball. Champagne surpassed 100 career groundballs with six during this game. Rothe collected four groundballs; Stone had three; Ainsley Shilling, Kylie Waeghe, Jillian Bingman, Crittenden, and Ziegler each had two. Defensively, Crittenden caused three turnovers while Alkire caused two.

The Lakers will play their final regular season home game against Davenport next Friday during their Morgan's Message Dedication game.
