The GVSU women's lacrosse team achieved a decisive victory against Concordia-St. Paul in their return to GLIAC play at home in Allendale, Michigan. The Lakers maintained control throughout the game, ultimately securing an 18-4 win.
Jillian Bingman initiated the scoring for GVSU just over a minute into the match. Delaney Smith followed with another goal, assisted by Zoe Ziegler. Bingman scored again with assistance from Ainsley Shilling, who also added a goal with help from Maddy Champagne. Concordia-St. Paul managed to score once before Ella Boose closed the first quarter with two consecutive goals, bringing the score to 6-1 in favor of GVSU.
In the second quarter, Champagne received an assist from Bingman for another Laker goal. The Golden Bears scored twice around a goal by Sydney Stone, leading to an 8-3 halftime score.
GVSU dominated the third quarter by outscoring Concordia-St. Paul 4-0. Bingman started this run with an assist from Hailey Crittenden, marking Crittenden's 100th career point. Smith added her second goal of the day, Leah Leonard scored off a pass from Bingman, and Boose concluded the quarter with another goal, extending GVSU's lead to 12-3.
In the fourth quarter, Grace Maddox assisted Stone for another Laker goal as their lead expanded to ten points. Concordia-St. Paul briefly reduced their deficit before Crittenden and Champagne exchanged assists and goals between them. Bingman and Boose each scored again before Shilling completed the scoring effort with her second goal of the game.
Both Ella Boose and Jillian Bingman had standout performances with four goals each; Bingman also contributed three assists while Boose added one. Delaney Smith, Maddy Champagne, Sydney Stone, and Ainsley Shilling each scored twice; Hailey Crittenden and Leah Leonard had one goal apiece. Champagne and Crittenden provided two assists each; Shilling, Zoe Ziegler, and Grace Maddox each contributed one assist.
Kaylyn Cater recorded eight saves in net for GVSU's defense. Stone caused four turnovers and collected four groundballs; Bingman gathered three groundballs while Ashleigh Rothe secured six draw controls.
The Lakers will remain at home for their next match against Northern Michigan on Sunday at noon when they will celebrate Senior Day.
