The Grand Valley State University (GVSU) women's lacrosse team has secured the GLIAC Championship title, completing a successful season with a 13-3 victory over Northern Michigan. This win enhances their record to 17-1 overall, with an undefeated streak against GLIAC opponents.

Maddy Champagne initiated the scoring for GVSU in the championship game, converting a free position attempt just over five minutes into play. Northern Michigan quickly responded, but Ashleigh Rothe restored the Lakers' lead less than two minutes later, ending the first quarter at 2-1.

In the second quarter, Zoe Ziegler increased GVSU's lead to 3-1. The Wildcats narrowed the gap with five minutes left in the quarter before GVSU took control of the game. Hailey Crittenden started a scoring run with her goal and assisted Champagne on another. Sydney Stone contributed another goal, leading to a halftime score of 6-2 in favor of GVSU.

The Lakers continued their offensive momentum in the second half. Champagne and Rothe each scored again, followed by Leah Leonard who received an assist from Jillian Bingman. Another assist from Champagne helped Stone score once more, extending their lead to 10-2. Although Northern Michigan managed one more goal, Stone answered back as GVSU led 11-3 going into the fourth quarter.

In the final period, Champagne and Stone each added one more goal to secure the victory for GVSU, with Ainsley Shilling assisting on Stone's last goal.

Champagne and Stone both scored four goals apiece during the match. Rothe scored twice while Crittenden, Ziegler, and Leonard each added one goal. Assists were credited to Champagne, Crittenden, Shilling, and Bingman. Leonard also led her team by securing six draw controls.

Kaylyn Cater made seven saves during the game for her 15th win this season. Defensive efforts included two turnovers caused by Stone, Rothe, and Aislynn Alkire; groundballs were picked up by several players including Ella Boose and Kylie Waeghe who each had two.

Looking ahead, GVSU is now awaiting their placement in the NCAA Tournament with selections being announced next Sunday after being ranked as a two seed in recent Midwest Regional rankings before entering this tournament.
