The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has named Sara Alvarez, Matt Bosch, and Maddie Kooistra as the Athletes of the Week for their performances in swimming and diving. These athletes from Grand Valley State University were instrumental in their team's success during a recent Tri-Meet against Calvin University and Saginaw Valley State.
Sara Alvarez was recognized as the Women's Swimmer of the Week. She excelled in several events, securing first place in the women's 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:03.19. Additionally, Alvarez contributed to her team's victory in the 200-yard medley relay, clocking a time of 1:43.79. Her performance also included first-place finishes in both the 200-yard breaststroke and the 200-yard individual medley.
Maddie Kooistra earned the title of Women's Diver of the Week following her outstanding performances at Venema Aquatic Center. She achieved first place in both the 1-meter dive with a score of 254.95 and the 3-meter dive with a score of 253.50.
On the men's side, Matt Bosch was named Men's Swimmer of the Week after breaking a pool record at Venema Aquatic Center in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 43.79 seconds. Bosch also placed second in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 20.28 seconds and finished first in both the 200-yard freestyle and 200-yard freestyle relay, recording times of 1:37.22 and 1:20.09 respectively.
Looking ahead, Grand Valley State University's men's and women's teams are set to compete against the University of Indianapolis this weekend at Ruth Lilly Fitness Center.
