Grand Valley State softball team prepares for GLIAC Tournament

The Grand Valley State softball team is preparing to commence their postseason at the GLIAC Tournament, which starts on Friday, May 3, in Rosemont, Illinois. The Lakers have secured the top seed and a first-round bye. They will face off against the winner of Ferris State and Wayne State at noon Eastern Time on Friday.

The Lakers enter the tournament with a record of 33-14 and have claimed a share of the GLIAC regular season championship with a 16-8 record. Eight players from the team were recognized in the All-GLIAC teams announced on May 1. Hannah Hollister and Morgan Spicer received first-team honors, while Kelsey Komorous, Ashley Platek, Liberti Fair, and Jenna Ballard earned second-team recognition. Genesis Eggart and Megan Koenigshof were given honorable mentions.

Hannah Hollister leads her team with a .396 batting average, ranking second in the GLIAC. She also set a new GVSU single-season stolen base record with 40 steals during regular play. Morgan Spicer has maintained a .362 batting average this season and tops her team with four triples; she led conference play hitting .455. Kelsey Komorous is leading the GLIAC with 53 runs batted in while hitting .368 for the season.

The Laker pitching staff has excelled this season with a league-leading ERA of 1.86. Ashley Platek stands out as she leads the GLIAC with an ERA of 1.74 and ranks fourth in wins with ten victories under her belt. Nevaeh Ingram follows closely behind in second place within the conference's ERA standings at 1.82 while maintaining an undefeated record of 7-0.
