Grand Valley State University (GVSU) secured the 2024 GLIAC Softball Championship by sweeping Parkside in a doubleheader at the GVSU Softball Field. The Lakers claimed victory in game one with a score of 7-1 and continued their dominance in game two, winning 5-0. The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) will announce the tournament seeding and schedule on Sunday.

In the first game, GVSU took an early lead when Hannah Hollister reached base on a bunt single, advanced to second through a steal, and moved to third on a wild pitch. Kelsey Komorous executed a squeeze bunt to bring Hollister home for a 1-0 advantage. Parkside managed an unearned run in the top of the second inning, but GVSU responded by scoring five runs in the bottom of the fifth. Morgan Spicer doubled with one out, Komorous was hit by a pitch, and Liberti Fair loaded the bases with an infield single. Megan Koenigshof drove in two runs with her single while other runs were scored through ground outs and errors.

Ashley Platek pitched for GVSU throughout game one, allowing just one unearned run on six hits while striking out three batters. Fair went 3-for-4 with a run scored; Koenigshof was 2-for-4 with two RBIs; Hollister and Spicer both recorded 2-for-4 performances with one run each.

In game two, all necessary scoring occurred during the first inning as pitcher Genesis Eggart completed a shutout performance allowing only one hit while striking out ten batters.

Hollister singled again before stealing second base and scoring via Spicer's double. Komorous walked followed by advancing runners due to passed ball plays before Fair's RBI single brought Spicer home alongside MaryJane Goodman's contribution via her own two-run single that increased their lead further until Faith Edwards finished off scoring efforts adding another tally onto scoreboard within subsequent innings leading up towards eventual win margin totaling five-zero outcome favoring Lakers' successful championship quest overall achieved successfully concluding regular season matchups altogether too eventually culminating into well-deserved celebratory moment marking proud accomplishment noteworthy indeed!
