The Grand Valley State University (GVSU) softball team, ranked ninth, is set to host Davenport and Saginaw Valley State at the GVSU Softball Field this weekend. The Lakers will face Davenport in a doubleheader on Saturday, April 6, starting at 1:00 PM. On Sunday, April 7, they will play another doubleheader against Saginaw Valley State, also beginning at 1:00 PM.
Currently holding a 20-7 overall record and a 3-1 mark in GLIAC play, the Lakers recently split their road games against Lewis and Ferris State. "GVSU won game one against Lewis 8-5 in extra innings before falling 2-1 in extra innings," according to their recent performance report. Against Ferris State, the Lakers lost the first game 2-1 but secured a win in the second game with a score of 2-1 in extra innings.
Offensively, Hannah Hollister leads GVSU with a .405 batting average and has accumulated 34 hits and 29 runs scored. Kelsey Komorous follows with a .373 average and leads the team with nine doubles and three home runs. Megan Koenigshof contributes with a .304 average alongside her teammates.
On the pitching side, Kylie Swierkos tops the GLIAC charts with an impressive 0.69 ERA. Genesis Eggart holds an 8-1 record with a second-ranked ERA of 1.21 in the league. Nevaeh Ingram adds depth to the roster with her third-ranked ERA of 1.43.
Davenport enters Saturday's matchup holding a record of 10-14 overall and remains undefeated in GLIAC play at 2-0 after sweeping Ferris State last weekend. Becca Daoust spearheads Davenport's offense with a .405 batting average while Hayley Kreiger leads her team with four home runs this season.
Saginaw Valley State comes into the weekend series at 16-11 overall and matches GVSU's conference record of 3-1 after splitting games against Ferris State before sweeping Parkside last week. Ella Reifschneider stands out for SVSU as she ranks second in GLIAC batting averages at .432.
