The Grand Valley State softball team played a doubleheader against Purdue Northwest on Friday, resulting in one win and one loss. The Lakers' overall record now stands at 31-14, with a 14-8 mark in the GLIAC.
In the first game, GVSU secured a 3-0 victory. The team took an early lead when Hannah Hollister scored from a sacrifice fly by Liberti Fair. MaryJane Goodman contributed to the score with an RBI in the fourth inning, bringing home Kenedy Coombe. Kelsey Komorous also added to the scoreboard with a double that allowed Morgan Spicer to score. Ashley Platek pitched a complete game shutout, allowing six hits and striking out three batters.
During the second game, GVSU initially led with Megan Koenigshof driving in Hollister for the first run. However, Purdue Northwest responded in the fifth inning to take a 2-1 lead. Despite GVSU regaining control with two runs in their half of the fifth inning—thanks to RBIs from Fair and Goodman—Purdue Northwest ultimately won 4-3 after scoring twice more in the sixth inning.
Genesis Eggart was credited with the loss after pitching seven innings and giving up four runs on eight hits while striking out eight batters.
The Lakers are set to conclude their regular season at home against Parkside on Saturday.
