The Lakers' swim and dive teams faced off against the University of Indianapolis in a dual meet. The men's team, ranked fourth, fell to the second-ranked University of Indianapolis with a score of 130.5-167.5.
On the men's side, Matt Bosch, named GLIAC Swimmer of the Week, competed in four events. He secured first place in both the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:40.18 and the 100-yard freestyle clocking in at 44.81 seconds.
Thomas Zoldowski contributed by taking second place in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 50.24, just behind his teammate Esteban Nunez Del Prado who finished first at 49.58 seconds. Zoldowski also placed second in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:50.00.
Sophomore Matt Blommel excelled in diving events, scoring 292.70 points to take first place in the one-meter dive and securing another first-place finish with a score of 283.80 in the three-meter dive.
The women's team tied with their ninth-ranked opponents from Indianapolis, each scoring 150 points.
Junior Lucy Hedley led her team by winning three events: she topped both the 100-yard freestyle and the 200-yard freestyle with times of 51.08 and 1:50.67 respectively and was part of the victorious 400-yard freestyle relay team that finished at 3:28.88.
Sara Alvarez, also named GLIAC Swimmer of the Week for women, won first place in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:08.12 and participated in securing second place for her team in both the medley relay (1:47.25) and individual breaststroke (1:06.52).
In diving for women, senior Maddie Kooistra took second place on one meter with a score of 235.90 while Sadie Huizenga achieved second on three meters scoring at 222.45.
Next up for GVSU's teams is a GLIAC Tri-Meet against Northern Michigan and Saginaw Valley State scheduled to take place at Marquette, Michigan starting at eleven o'clock.
