Grand Valley State narrowly defeated by Azusa Pacific in women's tennis

The Grand Valley State women's tennis team faced a narrow defeat against Azusa Pacific, with a final score of 4-3. The match took place on Monday afternoon in Azusa, California, bringing the Lakers' season record to 5-4.

In doubles competition, GVSU secured the point by winning two out of three matches. Vasileia Griva and Rachel Sam triumphed at No. 2 doubles with a score of 6-4. Similarly, Estefania Hernandez and Vale Mozas clinched victory at No. 3 doubles with another 6-4 win.

During singles play, Rachel Sam achieved a straight-set victory at No. 3 singles, finishing with scores of 6-4, 6-4. Anna Soteras added another win for the Lakers at No. 4 singles after a hard-fought match that ended in her favor with scores of 6-4, 3-6, 6-4.

However, Neus Ramos experienced a challenging three-set loss at No. 5 singles with scores of 4-6, 6-4, and finally falling short at 4-6. Estefania Hernandez also faced a tough three-set battle at No. 6 singles but was defeated with scores of 1-6, 6-2, and ultimately losing the third set at 2-6.

Vasileia Griva and Taylor Barrett both encountered difficulties in their matches at No.1 and No.2 singles respectively, each concluding their games with identical scores of 1-6, followed by another set loss at zero.

Looking ahead to their next challenge, the Lakers are scheduled to compete against Biola in La Mirada, California on Tuesday (March 5). The first serve is slated for an early evening start time.
