The Grand Valley State women's tennis team concluded their California road trip with a close 4-3 loss to Concordia Irvine on Thursday. This result brings the Lakers' season record to 5-6.
Concordia Irvine secured the doubles point with victories in both the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles matches. In singles competition, Anna Soteras achieved a straight-set victory at No. 3 singles, winning 6-2, 6-4. Vale Mozas earned a hard-fought win in three sets at No. 5 singles with scores of 7-5, 4-6, and 7-5. Estefania Hernandez also contributed with a straight-set triumph at No. 6 singles, finishing her match at 6-2, 6-1.
In other singles matches, Rachel Sam faced a challenging three-set defeat at No. 4 singles with scores of 6-4, 2-6, and 2-6. Taylor Barrett lost her match at No. 2 singles by scores of 3-6 and 1-6. Vasileia Griva was defeated in straight sets at the top singles position with scores of 0-6 and 2-6.
Looking ahead, the Lakers will return to action on March 22nd as they commence GLIAC conference play against Purdue Northwest in Hammond, Indiana, with the first serve scheduled for 11:00 AM.
