The Grand Valley State women's tennis team secured a victory against Northwood with a score of 6-1 on Saturday, February 24, at the Premier Athletic and Tennis Club. This win improves their season record to 5-3.
In doubles play, GVSU dominated by winning all matches. Taylor Barrett and Neus Ramos achieved a 6-1 win in the top doubles position. Vasileia Griva and Rachel Sam secured a 6-2 victory at No. 2 doubles, while Vale Mozas and Estefania Hernandez won 6-1 at No. 3 doubles.
During singles competition, Vasileia Griva emerged victorious with a three-set match ending in scores of 6-4, 1-6, 6-3 at the top singles position. Anna Soteras recorded a straight-set win of 7-5, 6-1 at No. 3 singles. Neus Ramos won her match with scores of 6-4, 6-3 at No. 4 singles. Estefania Hernandez claimed her match decisively with scores of 6-2, 6-2 at No. 5 singles, while Vale Mozas added another straight-set win with scores of 6-3, 7-5 at No. 6 singles. Taylor Barrett faced a challenging match but ultimately lost in three sets with scores of 6-4, 3-6, and finally losing the third set.
Looking ahead, the Lakers will travel to California for their next match against Azusa Pacific on Monday, March 4th, scheduled to start at 2:30 PM.
