The Grand Valley State women's tennis team concluded their regular season with a 5-2 victory over Michigan Tech on Saturday evening. The Lakers ended the season with an 11-8 record.
In doubles, GVSU secured the point by winning at No. 1 and No. 2 positions. Taylor Barrett and Neus Ramos achieved a 6-4 win at the top spot, while Vasileia Griva and Rachel Sam dominated with a 6-1 victory at No. 2 doubles. Estefania Hernandez and Vale Mozas faced a narrow defeat, losing 6-7 at No. 3 doubles.
During singles matches, Taylor Barrett won in straight sets, 7-5, 7-6, at No. 2 singles. Anna Soteras delivered a commanding performance with a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles. Rachel Sam made a comeback to win her match in three sets: 2-6, 6-2, 6-4 at No. 4 singles. Vale Mozas also secured her match in straight sets with scores of 7-5, 7-5 at No. 5 singles.
However, not all matches went in favor of GVSU as Vasileia Griva lost after three sets (0-6, 6-4, 2-6) at the top singles position and Sophia Hanover was defeated in another three-set match (5-7, 6-2, 6-10) at No. 6 singles.
With this victory, the Lakers have earned the third seed for the upcoming GLIAC Tournament scheduled to begin next week.
