Grand Valley State women’s tennis opens GLIAC play with win over Purdue Northwest

The Grand Valley State women's tennis team achieved a 5-2 victory against Purdue Northwest on Friday, marking their first win in the GLIAC play. This triumph brings the Lakers to an overall season record of 6-6 and a conference record of 1-0.

The Lakers secured the doubles point by winning all three matches. Taylor Barrett and Neus Ramos clinched a narrow 7-6 win at the top doubles position. Vasileia Griva and Rachel Sam earned a 6-2 victory at No. 2 doubles, while Estefania Hernandez and Vale Mozas also won with a score of 6-2 at No. 3 doubles.

In singles matches, Taylor Barrett secured a straight-set victory with scores of 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2 singles. Anna Soteras followed suit with a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 3 singles. Neus Ramos overcame her opponent in three sets, finishing with scores of 4-6, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 singles. Estefania Hernandez contributed another three-set win with scores of 6-3, 2-6, and a decisive tiebreaker of 10-3 at No. 6 singles.

Despite these successes, Vasileia Griva experienced a tough match, losing with scores of 2-6,5-7 at the top singles position. Rachel Sam was defeated as well with scores of 4-6,5-7 at No.4 singles.

The Lakers are set to play their first GLIAC home match this weekend against Davenport on March 23rd. The match will commence at Premier Athletic and Tennis Center at 5:00 PM.
