The Grand Valley State women's tennis team secured a victory against Davenport with a 6-1 win on Saturday evening at the Premier Athletic and Tennis Club. This triumph marks their second consecutive win in GLIAC play, improving their overall season record to 7-6.
In doubles competition, GVSU earned the point by winning two out of three matches. Vasileia Griva and Rachel Sam achieved a 6-2 victory at No. 2 doubles, while Estefania Hernandez and Vale Mozas won 6-4 at No. 3 doubles. However, Taylor Barrett and Neus Ramos were defeated with a score of 3-6 in the top doubles position.
During singles matches, Taylor Barrett emerged victorious after a challenging three-set match at the top singles position, winning 6-4, 3-6, 6-1. Anna Soteras dominated her opponent with a straight-set win of 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2 singles. Neus Ramos also secured a straight-set victory of 6-1, 6-3 at No. 4 singles. Estefania Hernandez recorded another straight-set win with scores of 6-2, 6-1 at No. 5 singles, while Vale Mozas delivered a strong performance with a dominant win of 6-0, 6-2 at No. 6 singles. Rachel Sam faced a tough battle but ultimately lost in three sets with scores of 5-7, 6-4, and 6-7 at No.3 singles.
Looking ahead, the Lakers are set to host Southwest Baptist for a nonconference match on Friday, March 29th at noon at the Premier Athletic and Tennis Club before traveling to compete against Ferris State on Saturday, March 30th at ten in the morning.
