The Grand Valley State women's soccer team, ranked 18th, is preparing for a GLIAC rivalry match against Ferris State on Sunday, October 27, at 1:00 PM in Big Rapids, Michigan.
GVSU currently holds second place in the GLIAC standings with a record of 6-1-2 and an overall season record of 9-1-3. Last weekend, the Lakers achieved two shutout victories to claim sole control of first place in the conference. They defeated Roosevelt 2-0 and Saginaw Valley State 5-0.
Senior Emma Chudik leads GVSU in scoring with four goals and two assists totaling ten points. She contributed a goal and an assist last weekend. Senior Ryann Fetty has also been instrumental this season with three goals and three assists for nine points. Fetty scored once and provided two assists last weekend while starting all 13 games for GVSU this season.
Sophomore Ella Kleiver was pivotal in the win against Roosevelt by scoring both goals. Kleiver added an assist against Saginaw Valley State, bringing her total to seven points this season. Junior goalkeeper Cailynn Junk recorded one individual shutout and one combined shutout last weekend, improving her goalkeeping record to 8-1-3 with five individual shutouts and two combined shutouts.
Ferris State enters Sunday's game holding a third-place position in the GLIAC standings with a record of 6-3-4 overall and a GLIAC mark of 5-2-2. The Bulldogs are three points behind the Lakers after tying Davenport 0-0 on Friday.
Katherine Welch leads Ferris State with four goals and five assists for thirteen points this season. Welch also has two game-winning goals to her name. Haley Buckman has contributed four goals totaling eight points, including one game-winner. Goalkeeper Morgan Fillion has appeared ten times for nine starts this season, achieving a record of 5-2-2 along with making thirty-eight saves and securing four shutouts.
