GVSU's men's and women's swim teams achieved notable victories against Northern Michigan and Saginaw Valley State during their competitions in Marquette, Michigan. The men's team secured wins with scores of 202-94 and 203-96.
In the men's events, junior Matt Bosch excelled by claiming first place in multiple races. Bosch set a pool record at PEIF with his 100-yard freestyle time of 43.91 and also won the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:39.30. Thomas Zoldowski emerged victorious in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:47.62, while Andrew Goh took first in both the 100-yard breaststroke (54.76) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:01.14). Raul Briceno finished second in the 1000-yard freestyle, clocking in at 9:29.88.
In diving events, Carter Wood led with a score of 468.05 in the one-meter dive, while Matt Blommel won the three-meter dive scoring 276.05.
The women's team also delivered strong performances, winning against Northern Michigan (172.50 -127.50) and Saginaw Valley State (232-68). Junior Lucy Hedley was instrumental for her team, setting a new pool record in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:48.26 and winning two other events including being part of the victorious relay team.
Other notable performances included Sara Alvarez Fernandez who placed first in both the 100-yard breaststroke (1:03.03) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:17.18), Kierston Hamron who claimed victory in the 100-yard freestyle at a time of 52.15, Alice Persson who topped her event with a time of 2:01.22 for the backstroke race, and Alysa Wager winning her event.
Diver Sadie Huizenga took second place on one-meter board while Macy Polasek won on three-meter board scoring a total of points not disclosed.
The GVSU Swim and Dive teams are scheduled to compete next against Oakland University on November 2nd at Oakland Aquatic Center starting at midday.
