The Grand Valley State University (GVSU) Swim and Dive team is celebrating a notable achievement as three of its athletes have been named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Athletes of the Week. This marks the third consecutive week that GVSU athletes have received this recognition.

Lucy Hedley, a junior from Grand Valley State, has been honored as the Women's Swimmer of the Week for the second week running. Hedley excelled in three events during last Saturday's competition against Northern Michigan and Saginaw Valley, breaking two pool records at PEIF Pool. She competed in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:48.26 and was part of the 400 free relay team that set a new record with a time of 3:28.08. Additionally, she secured first place in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.55.

Sophomore Sadie Huizenga was named Women's Diver of the Week by GLIAC. Competing in both the 1-meter and 3-meter dives against Northern Michigan and Saginaw Valley, Huizenga scored 400.80 to take second place in the former event and achieved first place in the latter with a score of 230.40.

Junior Carter Wood received recognition as Men's Diver of the Week following his performance in a Tri-Meet against Northern Michigan and Saginaw Valley State University. Wood won first place in the 1-meter dive with a score of 468.05 and finished second in the 3-meter dive with a score of 259.65.

Head Coach Boyce expressed satisfaction with these achievements, stating, "Another Athlete of the Week. We just keep rolling it with great performances out of all three of our swimmers and divers." He added that it was enjoyable to witness such success across all participants over the past weekend, reinforcing their aim to remain strong contenders in Division II diving.

Reflecting on Hedley's performance, Coach Boyce noted, "Lucy had one of the best meets of her career, breaking pool records, and she was smooth and fast in every way." Looking ahead to future competitions, he acknowledged that their upcoming meet against Oakland University will pose more challenges.

The GVSU swim teams will take a break this week before returning to action on November 9th when they compete against Oakland University at its Aquatic Center starting at 1:00 p.m.
