GVSU suffers defeat against Ferris State with turnovers playing key role

Grand Valley State University faced a challenging game against Ferris State at Lubbers Stadium, resulting in a 34-7 loss. The match drew an audience of 16,332, marking the fifth-largest crowd in the stadium's history. This defeat places the Lakers at 7-1 overall and 3-1 in GLIAC play, while Ferris State advances to 7-1 overall and remains undefeated in conference action with a 4-0 record.

Ferris State capitalized on GVSU's errors, scoring 24 points from three turnovers. A kickoff return deep into Laker territory followed GVSU's sole touchdown of the day, narrowing the score to 13-7. Additionally, Ferris State managed to block a punt during the game. The Bulldogs did not turn over the ball and successfully converted half of their third and fourth down attempts.

Senior wide receiver Cody Tierney was responsible for Grand Valley's only touchdown with a notable 45-yard run early in the third quarter, concluding a six-play drive covering 75 yards. Tierney also led his team in rushing with two carries totaling 52 yards. Senior quarterback Avery Moore contributed with seven carries for 43 yards before leaving due to an injury caused by a face mask penalty. Four different quarterbacks combined completed six out of nineteen pass attempts for a total of 74 yards, while the team accumulated 155 rushing yards.

On defense, senior safety Kobe Hayward recorded nine tackles and achieved three tackles for loss totaling five negative yards. Grant Hart, Anthony Cardamone, Ian Kennelly, and Jack Gilchrist each added six tackles to their team's defensive efforts.
