The Grand Valley State men's basketball team has been ranked fourth in the GLIAC for the upcoming 2024-25 season, as announced by the league office. Head coach Cornell Mann is entering his third season with GVSU, having led the Lakers to a 34-27 record over his first two seasons. Last year, the team reached the GLIAC tournament championship.

GVSU retains six of its top eight scorers from last season, including three players who averaged double figures in scoring. All-GLIAC performers Ethan Alderink and William Dunn return after averaging double figures last season. Alderink recorded 11.5 points per game on 48.5% shooting from the field, while Dunn contributed 11.2 points on 48.8% shooting from the field and 46% from beyond the arc.

Point guards Mason Docks and Trevor Smith Jr., who both earned All-GLIAC defensive honors last season, are also returning. Docks scored an average of 10 points per game and led GVSU with 35 steals. Smith Jr. led the team with 102 assists and was third with 31 steals. Jalen Charity will also be back after appearing in all 31 games last season, starting in 30 of them.

The Lakers have added transfers expected to make an immediate impact this season. Sophomore guard Kaden Brown joins GVSU after one year at Wright State, while junior forward Daivion Boleware comes from Glen Oaks Community College where he was an all-conference performer averaging a double-double (20.4 ppg, 11.8 rpg) in his final season.

GVSU's regular-season opener is scheduled for next Friday (Nov. 8) against Walsh at the GVSU Fieldhouse Arena, with tipoff set for 2:00 PM. The game will be streamed live on FloSports.
