GVSU women’s basketball triumphs over MSUB; remains undefeated

The GVSU women's basketball team, ranked third nationally, secured a victory against sixth-ranked Montana State Billings (MSUB) with a final score of 69-52. This win brings the Lakers to a 2-0 record early in the season.

The game started strong for the Lakers as they quickly gained a lead with layups from Abrie Cabana and Nicole Kamin. Avery Zeinstra contributed by hitting a three-pointer to extend their advantage after MSUB narrowed the gap to one point. By the end of the first quarter, Ellie Droste's three-pointer ensured GVSU led 19-13.

In the second quarter, MSUB reduced the deficit to two points, but an 8-0 run by GVSU widened their lead again. The Lakers maintained control through scoring efforts from Cabana and Hadley Miller, leading 35-26 at halftime.

The third quarter saw GVSU increasing their lead into double digits with another deep shot from Cabana. They continued to dominate in scoring and maintained their lead throughout the remainder of the game, finishing the third quarter ahead 54-41.

Throughout the fourth quarter, GVSU capitalized on points in the paint and converted seven free throws to secure their victory. Rylie Bisballe and Abrie Cabana each scored ten points for GVSU's balanced offensive effort. Nicole Kamin and Hadley Miller added nine points each, while Ellie Droste scored eight. Kamin led with six rebounds, followed by Bisballe and Paige Vanstee with five each. Bisballe and Zeinstra also contributed four assists each.

GVSU outperformed MSUB in rebounding with a margin of 43-31 and restricted them to just one successful three-point shot out of fifteen attempts during the game.

GVSU will conclude their Montana trip by facing eighth-ranked Union on Sunday morning at 11:00 am EST.
