The Grand Valley State women's soccer team, ranked 19th, ended their match against Northern Michigan in a 1-1 draw on Thursday evening. This result brings the Lakers' record to 11 wins, 1 loss, and 5 draws for the season, with an 8-1-4 standing in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC).
The Lakers opened the scoring in the 25th minute when Ella Kleiver scored from a rebound after a header by Kendall Aikens was saved by the goalkeeper. Abby Winn assisted with a cross into the box that led to this opportunity.
By halftime, GVSU maintained their lead while outshooting Northern Michigan 9-8 and holding a corner kick advantage of 6-4.
In the second half, Northern Michigan managed to equalize late in the game during the 82nd minute. The Wildcats capitalized on a deflected ball from midfield that found its way to one of their forwards who scored.
Ella Kleiver was notable for her fourth goal of the season and two shots on goal. Alli French had three shots, two of which were on target. Kendall Aikens contributed an assist and had two shots on goal as well. Ryann Fetty and Abby Winn also added two shots each. Goalkeeper Cailynn Junk made seven saves during the match.
Grand Valley State will conclude their regular season at home against Michigan Tech this Saturday afternoon. The match is scheduled for a 1:00 PM kickoff at GVSU Soccer Field and will be available for live streaming on FloSports.
