The GVSU women's basketball team is set to open their home schedule this weekend with games against Ohio Dominican and Walsh. The Lakers have started the season strong, currently holding a 3-0 record and ranked third nationally.

The match against Ohio Dominican is scheduled for 5:00 PM, while the game against Walsh will take place at 3:00 PM. Prior to Saturday's game, GVSU will honor five players and two student assistants on Senior Day. The players being recognized are Rylie Bisballe, Abrie Cabana, Ellie Droste, Hadley Miller, and Kathryn Schmidt. Alia Burgess and Jordyn Roberts are the student assistants being celebrated. This group has contributed significantly to the team's success, achieving over 100 wins, three GLIAC Championships, and reaching four NCAA Tournaments including a Final Four appearance in 2022.

GVSU had a successful start to their season last week in Montana by winning all three of their games. They defeated Findlay by 42 points, #6 MSUB by 17 points, and eighth-ranked Union by 26 points. Rylie Bisballe was named MVP of the tournament while Ellie Droste and Abrie Cabana also made it to the All-Tournament team.

Ohio Dominican will be starting their season this weekend under new head coach Brianna Sims. Last season they had a record of 7-21 and were predicted to finish 11th out of 13 teams in the GMAC Preseason poll. Their roster includes First-Team All-GMAC Gabby Stare who averaged over 16 points per game last year.

Walsh will also begin their season this weekend with an opening game against Davenport before facing GVSU on Sunday. The Cavaliers were picked eighth in the preseason GMAC poll after finishing last season with an 8-18 record. Kiley Dyrlund returns as a key player for Walsh after being selected to the GMAC Preseason Second-Team.

Fans can follow both games through live stats and live stream options available online. Additional coverage is accessible via social media @gvsuwbb and on GVSUlakers.com.
