Grand Valley State narrowly defeated by Ashland in last-second basketball thriller

The Grand Valley State men's basketball team experienced a narrow defeat against Ashland on Sunday, November 10, at the GVSU Fieldhouse Arena. The game concluded with a score of 68-66 in favor of Ashland, marking their first win of the season and leaving the Lakers with a 1-1 record.

Ethan Alderink was the top scorer for GVSU, contributing 18 points from 6-12 shooting and an impressive 5-6 from the free throw line. He also led his team in rebounds with seven. Mason Docks added 15 points, also achieving a strong performance from both field goals and free throws. Jalen Charity contributed 14 points and four rebounds to the team's effort.

GVSU's shooting accuracy stood at 38% from the field and they achieved a commendable 79% from the free throw line. In comparison, Ashland shot slightly better from the field at 40%, but only managed a lower percentage of three-point shots. The Lakers did excel in rebounding, securing more overall and offensive rebounds than their opponents.

The game saw both teams exchanging leads multiple times throughout its duration. GVSU managed to overcome an eight-point deficit in the first half to eventually tie by halftime after Ethan Alderink's layup. The second half continued with competitive play as both teams kept close scores until Ashland secured victory with a last-second shot.

GVSU is set to face Lewis next Tuesday for their first away game of this regular season in Romeoville, Illinois.
