The Grand Valley State University (GVSU) Swim and Dive team has achieved a notable sweep of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Athlete of the Week awards.
Lucy Hedley, representing GVSU, was named Women's Swimmer of the Week. She set a new school record in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 49.96 during a competition against Oakland University. Hedley also secured first place in the 200 free with a time of 1:48.68 and topped the Women's 500 free at 4:43.83.
In diving, Maddie Kooistra from GVSU earned recognition as Women's Diver of the Week. She scored 245.85 in the 1-meter dive to claim second place behind an Oakland diver and took third place in the 3-meter dive with a score of 221.55.
On the men's side, Esteban Nunez Del Prado was awarded Men's Swimmer of the Week after breaking another school record in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 53.59, securing first place against Oakland's competitors. He also won first place in the 100 fly at 47.18 and finished second in the 200 IM with a time of 1:47.77.
Carter Wood received accolades as Men's Diver of the Week for his performance against Oakland University, achieving first place in the 1-meter dive with a score of 300.00 but placing third in the 3-meter dive with a score of 261.67.
The GVSU swim and dive teams are scheduled to compete again from December 5-7 at the Calvin Invite.
