Grand Valley State University has appointed Dominique Hamman as the new head coach for its women's lacrosse team. This announcement was made by Keri Becker, the Director of Athletics at GVSU. Hamman will be taking over from MacKenzie Lawler, who has moved to Florida State University as an assistant coach.
"Dominque Hamman demonstrated superior leadership and coaching qualities that made her an exceptional choice to be our next head women's lacrosse coach," said Becker. "She has an excellent grasp on what is required to be the CEO of a program, a high-quality coach and recruiter, as well as committed to developing these women in all facets of life."
Hamman's previous role was at Daemen University in Amherst, New York, where she served as the first head coach in their women's lacrosse program history since 2022. Under her guidance, Daemen's team achieved seven wins in their debut season and saw five players earn ECC All-Conference honors. She also coached the conference's top goalkeeper in save percentage last season.
Before her tenure at Daemen University, Hamman was a graduate assistant coach at Grand Valley State for two years. During this period, she contributed significantly to the team's success with a record of 15-3 overall and winning the GLIAC tournament championship in 2021. Her focus on goalkeepers helped them achieve first place in the GLIAC and 17th nationally in save percentage.
As a former player herself, Hamman played for Central Michigan University where she set records for saves and wins while earning Second-Team All-Conference honors twice.
Joining Hamman on the coaching staff are assistant coach Hilary (Duda) McFadden along with graduate assistants Aislynn Alkire and Jackie Wolford. Becker expressed gratitude towards McFadden for her role during the interim period: "I would like to thank Hilary (Duda) McFadden for stepping into the interim role and doing an amazing job in all aspects of the program."
