The Grand Valley State women's soccer team experienced a setback in the GLIAC semifinals, tying with Saginaw Valley State but ultimately losing in penalty kicks. The match took place on Friday afternoon, resulting in the Lakers moving to a 12-1-7 record for the season as they await their seeding for the NCAA Tournament.

Saginaw Valley State initiated the scoring in the 32nd minute, taking a 1-0 lead. Despite this, GVSU outshot the Cardinals 13-7 during the first half and managed eight shots on goal. Both teams earned one corner kick each in these initial 45 minutes.

In the second half, GVSU equalized in the 74th minute when freshman Sarah Fromm scored her third goal of the season. Alli French provided a key assist, marking her second of the season. The Lakers maintained offensive pressure by outshooting SVSU 12-9 during this period, yet both teams remained tied after regulation time.

Neither team could score during two overtime periods. GVSU had seven shots compared to SVSU's two in overtime and held a significant advantage with 32 total shots against SVSU's 18 throughout the game. However, it was not enough as they fell short in penalty kicks with a final score of 3-2.

Key contributors included Alli French with an assist and six shots (four on target) over 85 minutes and Sarah Fromm who scored GVSU's sole goal from four attempts. Ryann Fetty added four shots with two on target while Kacy Lauer also made four attempts with one shot on goal over her extended playtime of 104 minutes. Taylor Reid had three shots on goal during her time on field totaling 98 minutes. Daan Louwerse and Mackenzie Ford were present for all of regular and extra time at 100 minutes each, while Cailynn Junk contributed five saves including one crucial save during penalty kicks.

The Lakers now look forward to their placement announcement for the NCAA Tournament scheduled for Monday at 7:00 PM. Updates will be available at gvsulakers.com regarding their upcoming tournament journey.
