The GVSU women's basketball team, ranked third, secured a victory against Thomas More in an away game on Friday afternoon. The Lakers maintained their winning streak with a decisive 71-34 win, marking their sixth consecutive victory this season.

GVSU started strong with a 15-4 run, never relinquishing the lead throughout the game. Key players Kathryn Schmidt, Hadley Miller, and Abrie Cabana contributed to the early momentum by scoring three-pointers. By the end of the first quarter, GVSU was ahead 21-8.

In the second quarter, an 8-0 run extended their lead beyond 20 points. MacKenzie Bisballe initiated this run with a layup, followed by successful shots from Paige Vanstee and Avery Zeinstra. The Lakers held a commanding 39-17 advantage at halftime.

The third quarter saw limited offensive action initially until GVSU managed to pull further ahead with a 6-2 run, ending the period with a 53-33 lead. In the final quarter, Ellie Droste's five points helped extend the lead to 37 after another 7-0 run. Sydney Cherney's three-pointer and Megan Crow's two layups sealed the victory for GVSU.

Rylie Bisballe was the top scorer with 16 points, along with five rebounds and three assists. Nicole Kamin added eight points and three steals. Both Kathryn Schmidt and Avery Zeinstra scored seven points each and grabbed five rebounds apiece. The Lakers outperformed Thomas More in rebounding (44-35) and forced 26 turnovers.

GVSU will return home to face number five Ashland on Thursday at 6:00 PM in the Fieldhouse.
