GVSU wrestlers achieve strong results at Findlay Open

Grand Valley State University's men's wrestling team delivered a commendable performance at the 2024 Findlay Open on Saturday, November 16. The Lakers saw four of their wrestlers secure top-four finishes, while seven members of the team achieved at least three victories each.

Sophomore Jak Keller competed in the 133-pound category and ended with a 3-2 record, including two bonus point wins. In the 149-pound class, redshirt freshman C.J. Poole also posted a 3-2 record with one bonus point win.

Maclain Morency advanced to the semifinals in the 157-pound division and concluded his run in fourth place with a 3-2 mark. Maddox Simcoe recorded a balanced 2-2 record in the 165-pound category.

Josh Kenny reached the semifinals in the 174-pound weight class and secured third place with an impressive 4-1 record. Brayden Bobo, competing at 184 pounds, made it to the semifinals as well and finished fourth with a similar 3-2 record. Another wrestler in this weight class, Brayden Mirjavadi, matched Bobo's effort with his own 3-2 record.

In the heavyweight division (285 pounds), Carter Blough showcased notable skill by achieving three bonus point wins and reaching the finals before losing a closely contested overtime decision with a score of 4-1.
