Grand Valley State prepares for NCAA tournament opener against UMSL

The Grand Valley State women's soccer team is set to face the University of Missouri-St. Louis (UMSL) in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The match will take place on Friday, November 22, at 10:00 AM CT / 11:00 AM ET at Maryville's campus in St. Louis, Missouri.

GVSU enters the tournament as the third seed in the Midwest region with a record of 12-1-7. The Lakers are the reigning Midwest regional champions and have participated in 21 consecutive NCAA Tournaments, achieving an overall record of 63-12-8. They have claimed 16 Midwest regional championships and hold an NCAA Division II record with seven national championships.

Throughout this season, GVSU has scored 28 goals against their opponents' eight and has outshot them significantly. Emma Chudik, Ryann Fetty, and Allie French each lead GVSU with ten points this season. Chudik and French share the team lead for goals alongside Ella Kleiver with four each, while Fetty has contributed three goals and four assists. Taylor Reid tops the team with five assists.

Cailynn Junk was named GLIAC Goalkeeper of the Year, marking her as only the third Laker to receive this honor. Junk has started 18 games with a record of 10-1-7, achieving nine individual shutouts and two combined shutouts.

UMSL enters as the sixth seed in the Midwest region with a record of 14-3-3 after winning their first GLVC tournament championship. The Tritons have been successful recently, winning ten out of their last eleven matches.

Jada Holloman leads UMSL with ten goals and six assists for a total of 26 points this season. She also has five game-winning goals to her name. Josie Maddox has recorded seven goals and four assists, while Kayley Judy added five goals and six assists.
