GVSU wrestlers compete at Jim Koch Open with notable performances

Grand Valley State University's men's wrestling team participated in the 2024 Jim Koch Open held in Kenosha, Wisconsin. The event saw seven of their wrestlers achieving three or more wins, with six securing positions within the top six.

In the 125-pound category, Simon Dominguez began strong with a major decision victory over Roan Cooper from Davenport University but was later defeated by Archer Heelan of St. Cloud State and Nathan Smith from Indianapolis.

Mason Feudale competed in the 133-pound class, winning his first match against Xavier Rodela from West Liberty. However, he faced defeats at the hands of Caleb Meekins from St. Cloud State and Evan Benitez from McKendree University.

Jak Keller also represented Grand Valley State in the 133-pound division and finished fifth overall. Keller secured victories against Tanner Tishner of Indianapolis and Brian Beers of Illinois but lost to Matthew Chi from UW-Parkside and Joey Roti.

Logan Klinge started his run with a win over Kentrell Kinney of Kentucky Wesleyan but was subsequently bested by Gunnar LeGrand from McKendree University and Brian Beers.

Wyatt Dusseau-Garno faced tough competition in his matches against Sam Spencer of St. Cloud State and Evan Benitez.

Lane Huizar and Elijah Bunn competed in the 141-pound category but did not place or score points for their team. Gustavo DeLima also participated without placing after losses to Rhett Koenig from Minnesota and William Baysingar of Illinois.

Brady Vogt managed to score one team point after an initial victory over Simon Kruse from Wisconsin before falling to Jake Niffenegger and William Baysingar.

Elijah Kidder scored 1.5 team points after defeating Caden Moore of Kentucky Wesleyan but lost subsequent matches to Jordan Craft from UW-Parkside and Hudson Goebel of Illinois.

Caden Jacobs secured a fifth-place finish in the 149-pound division with wins over Hudson Goebel, Gavin Garcia, Timothy McGuire, and Jack Nelson while facing losses to Jake Harrier and Jordan Craft.

Eran Marx did not place after defeats by Cade Cass of Findlay and Timothy McGuire. Meanwhile, Cj Poole scored 2.5 team points with victories over Cade Cass, Josiah Dedeaux, Finn Merrill before losing to Joey Semerad and Jordan Craft due to medical forfeit.

David Clemons achieved an early win against Caden Moore but was defeated by Harrison May and Finn Merrill thereafter.

In the 157-pound class, Maclain Morency placed sixth following victories over Henry Niebauer, Mason Cantu, Colton Bornholdt but suffered losses to Ben Durocher, Easton Worachek, Daniel Uribe.

Cayden Strong won his preliminary match against Cade Johnson yet fell short against Logan Swaw and Mason Cantu. Michael Merritt earned a win over Christian Pfeiffer-Laguerre but lost matches against Cody Ueberroth and Lowell Arnold.

Tyler Pressel started strong with a technical fall victory over Nash Cooper but could not overcome Logan Sanom or Kailan Keith afterward. Nathan Mansor faced two falls in his preliminaries against Noah Jackson and Shane Bates.

Miles Curtis did not score any points following defeats by Crosby Schlosser and Silas Dailey. Bradley Mayse scored two team points after beating Adler Osborn; however, he was defeated by Chris Moore before withdrawing due to medical reasons against London Kisser.

Brayden Mirjavadi advanced through several rounds with wins over Drayden McKerrow, Brayden Bobo (teammate), Tyson Meyer until losing narrowly in third place match versus Zeke Waltz while Trammel Robinson finished fifth scoring significant points for GVSU after multiple falls including injury default win versus Bryce Fitzpatrick despite earlier loss again Zeke Waltz himself too who prevailed previously during semis stage already once as well earlier on day itself too!

Brayden Bobo managed one win initially versus Shamon Handegan prior suffering consecutive tech fall losses thereafter though only! Matthew Morris unable make impact either going down twice consecutively both times right away itself only really instead now here then eventually overall finally instead ultimately still...

Broch Mansor opened successfully pinning Kamron Powell yet couldn’t maintain momentum further succumbing later onwards afterwards consecutively hence forth here eventually instead ultimately still finally likewise! Benjamin Leece won opening bout Joseph Swanson preceding falling victim Dominic Murphy then later fellow teammate Derek Badgley next round same way likewise just like that!

Derek Badgley reached fourth position overcoming Cameron Baker among others along journey although succumbing eventual victor Jordan Blanchard finale matchup thereby securing solid finish nonetheless regardless anyway despite everything else notwithstanding entirely indeed!
