Six Grand Valley State Lakers honored on D2CCA Super Region teams

The Division II Conference Commissioner's Association has announced its Super Region 3 All-Region teams for 2024, with six players from Grand Valley State's football team receiving honors. Among these, three players were named to the D2CCA Super Region 3 First-Team: senior offensive linemen Gabe Brown and Kyler Blake-Jones, along with junior cornerback Devin Pringle. Senior safety Ian Kennelly, junior linebacker Anthony Cardamone, and junior defensive end Niles King were recognized as second-team honorees.

Grand Valley State concluded their season with an overall record of 11-2 and reached the NCAA DII Playoff second round.

Gabe Brown, a senior lineman and finalist for the 2024 Gene Upshaw Award, played a crucial role in GVSU's rushing game. The team led the GLIAC in rushing and ranked seventh nationally with an average of 247.2 yards per game. Brown achieved a 96.3 efficiency rating for the regular season and was named the 2024 GLIAC Offensive Lineman of the Year. Kyler Blake-Jones matched his performance with a 96.7 efficiency rating and was an All-GLIAC first-team performer.

Junior cornerback Devin Pringle contributed significantly to GVSU's defense by ranking fourth on the team in tackles with 44 and recording six pass breakups. The secondary he led allowed only 121.6 passing yards per game, ranking second nationally.

Ian Kennelly, a senior safety, was a First-Team All-GLIAC performer who ranked second on his team in tackles with 64 while intercepting three passes. Junior linebacker Anthony Cardamone led his squad in tackles with 80 and made notable contributions with tackles for loss and quarterback sacks.

Finally, junior defensive end Niles King recorded significant defensive statistics including total tackles, tackles for loss, quarterback sacks, and QB hurries.

Grand Valley State set a school record during the season by not allowing a completed pass in two games against Northern Michigan and Harding.
