The Grand Valley State University (GVSU) women's basketball team began their Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play with a decisive victory against Saginaw Valley State University (SVSU). The Lakers, ranked number one, dominated the Cardinals with a final score of 93-36. This win marks their eighth consecutive victory this season and gives them a 1-0 record in GLIAC play.

The game commenced with GVSU taking an early lead, scoring an 11-2 run within the first five minutes. They maintained this momentum to end the first quarter leading 22-4. In the second quarter, the Lakers continued their strong performance by adding another 21 points, resulting in a halftime lead of 43-16.

Although SVSU managed to score five of the initial seven points in the second half, GVSU responded with a remarkable 24-0 run initiated by Abrie Cabana's three-pointer. Rylie Bisballe contributed significantly during this period and Maya White added to the score before concluding the third quarter at 75-25.

In the final quarter, SVSU started with an 8-3 run but was quickly countered by Ellie Droste's three-pointer for GVSU. Sydney Cherney followed up with another triple that launched an 11-point streak for GVSU, culminating in an impressive margin of victory by 57 points.

Rylie Bisballe led all players with a total of 16 points on efficient shooting and also contributed four assists, three steals, and two blocks. MacKenzie Bisballe scored 11 points along with five rebounds and three steals. Both Ellie Droste and Megan Crow scored ten points each. Avery Zeinstra stood out defensively with five steals as part of a team effort that forced SVSU into committing 38 turnovers from which GVSU capitalized for 48 points.

Looking ahead, GVSU will continue their road games as they face Wayne State on Saturday at 1:00 PM.
