Grand Valley State University's swim and dive teams continued their strong performance on the second day of the Calvin Winter Invite in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
In women's events, Katie O'Connell set a new school and pool record in the 400 IM with a time of 4:18.16, securing first place. Two other Lakers secured second and third places in this event. Alysa Wager finished third in the 100-yard fly with a time of 54.77. Lucy Hedley won the 200-yard free with a time of 1:49.16, followed closely by Angelica Angilletta who took second place at 1:52.20.
Liv Geiger placed third in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:03.97, while Staci Nation finished fourth in the 100-yard backstroke at 56.77 seconds. The women's team also placed fourth in the 200-yard relay with a time of 1:43.49.
In diving, Maddie Kooistra scored a remarkable 446.7 to take first place in the one-meter dive, while Olivia Kutsche finished third for GVSU.
On the men's side, Esteban Nuñez Del Prado claimed first place in the men's 100-yard fly with a time of 46.79, followed by Brennan Neitzel who took third at 48.41 seconds. Luis Ojeda Bosch secured second place in the 400 IM with a score of 3:57.16, while Will Herwig came third at 3:57.97.
Matt Bosch set a new pool record at Venema Aquatic Center by touching the wall at 1:34.90 to win his event, followed by Austin Millard who took second place.
Andrew Goh achieved second place in the men's 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 53.75 seconds, and Aaron Dies completed the men's backstroke event at third position with a time of 48.57 seconds.
The men's team also competed well in relays; their medley relay team clocked in at fourth place with members Andrew Goh, Brennan Neitzel, Esteban Nuñez Del Prado, and Evan Scotto DiVetta finishing at a combined time of 1:27.39.
Carter Wood earned second place with his diving score of 464.15 points; Austin Clise and Matthew Blommel followed closely behind him to secure third and fourth places respectively.
The GVSU teams are set to compete again on Saturday for Day Three events scheduled to begin at both morning and evening sessions as they aim for more victories.
