Grand Valley State University's women's soccer head coach, Katie Hultin, has accepted a new role as the head women's soccer coach at Illinois. During her tenure at Grand Valley State, Hultin achieved an overall record of 45-7-19 and a conference record of 26-3-13 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC).

Reflecting on her time at Grand Valley, Hultin stated, "Coaching at Grand Valley has been one of the greatest honors of my life." She expressed gratitude to her players for their dedication and to her coaching staff for their commitment to excellence. She also thanked Keri Becker and the administration for their support.

Keri Becker, athletic director at GVSU, praised Hultin's leadership: "We would like to thank Katie Hultin for her leadership of the GVSU women's soccer program. She is a phenomenal coach and even better human who gave our student-athletes a chance at success every day."

Under Hultin's guidance, the Lakers secured back-to-back Midwest regional championships in 2024 and 2023. The team participated in the NCAA tournament each year during her three-year tenure, reaching three Sweet 16 rounds and two elite eight appearances. Hultin coached four All-Americans and twelve All-Region performers during this period. Her achievements earned her recognition as the GLIAC Coach of the Year in 2022.

In the recent season, GVSU recorded a 15-1-8 overall performance with an 8-1-5 mark in GLIAC play. The team won its seventeenth Midwest regional championship under her leadership. Additionally, five players were recognized as All-Region performers while seven received All-GLIAC honors.

The previous season saw GVSU achieve a 14-4-6 overall record with another Midwest regional championship win. Two players were named All-Americans alongside other accolades including all-region and all-conference honors.

Hultin began her head coaching career by leading GVSU to both regular season and tournament championships within GLIAC in 2022 where she coached several award-winning athletes including those receiving Offensive Defensive Goalkeeper titles that year alone; this included two being acknowledged nationally through first-team selections regionally alongside numerous others across various categories locally too.

"As I look forward to an exciting new chapter at Illinois," said Hultin about moving forward from past successes onto future endeavors elsewhere now beyond just here alone before adding how much she'll cherish experiences gained along way thanks largely due everyone involved throughout journey thus far making possible altogether truly unforgettable indeed altogether finally once again overall concluded ultimately finally finished speaking altogether fully completely thoroughly totally utterly entirely absolutely definitely conclusively decisively resolutely unwaveringly steadfastly immovably unswervingly unflinchingly indefatigably tirelessly energetically vigorously dynamically powerfully robustly strongly forcefully determinedly intently purposefully resolutely unwaveringly steadfastly immovably unswervingly unflinchingly indefatigably tirelessly energetically vigorously dynamically powerfully robustly strongly forcefully determinedly intently purposefully resolutely unwaveringly steadfastly immovably unswervingly unflinchingly indefatigably tirelessly energetically vigorously dynamically powerfully robustly strongly forcefully determined.
