The Grand Valley State University (GVSU) women's basketball team secured a decisive victory over Drury, winning 104-63. This win keeps the Lakers undefeated for the season with an 11-0 record.
Drury initially took a lead by scoring the first four points of the game. However, GVSU quickly responded with a 10-0 run, establishing a 10-4 advantage. The Lakers' outside shooting was effective in the first quarter, with players Abrie Cabana, Avery Zeinstra, Lexi Plitzuweit, and Rylie Bisballe contributing to a 28-12 lead.
In the second quarter, GVSU extended their lead with a 17-4 run. Avery Zeinstra and Paige Vanstee added three-pointers to push the score to 45-16. Molly Anderson joined in with two three-pointers of her own before Cabana hit another late in the quarter, bringing the halftime score to 60-24.
Rylie Bisballe opened the second half with another three-pointer for GVSU. Lexi Plitzuweit followed up with a layup that increased their lead to over 40 points at 65-24. Both teams scored evenly in the third quarter, each adding 23 points and ending it at an 83-47 scoreline favoring GVSU.
The final quarter saw an early 8-2 run from GVSU featuring threes from Lauren Slagle and Sydney Cherney. Cherney's subsequent triple pushed GVSU past the century mark for this season's first time.
Avery Zeinstra led scoring for GVSU with a career-high of 16 points on efficient shooting. Rylie Bisballe, Lexi Plitzuweit, Nicole Kamin, Paige Vanstee, and Abrie Cabana each contributed ten points. In total, fourteen Lakers scored as they shot 54.7% from the field and matched their single-game program record by hitting sixteen three-pointers.
Looking ahead, GVSU will continue their road trip with an upcoming game against Ohio State on Tuesday afternoon.
